Empowering Detroit through Development and Social Media

Despite reports of bankruptcy and corruption, Detroit is growing in a positive way, and it is a great place to live, work, and play.  Currently my family, which includes my two brothers and parents, are opening two, and hopefully more, brand new businesses in the central business district of Detroit, and we are not the only ones!  Accounting firm Plante Moran is opening an office in the Compuware Building. Advertising giant Campbell Ewald has brought 600 employees downtown next to Ford Field. Detroit is growing and changing, and we are excited to be a part of it.

New Ventures

Through social media we are hoping to influence and mobilize social media for the right customers. Our two new ventures are Bamboo-DetroitBamboo Detroit, a collaborative co-working space on Brush Street and an Anytime Fitness gym on Griswold Street. Both are geared towards young professionals who work in Detroit and are looking to contribute to the turnaround of our great city. We are using social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to create buzz about the new businesses, inform the public of our purpose, and keep them informed of industry news, as well as getting the word out about new positions available within the companies. Blogging is the next asset on our radar. Maybe this will be our very first entry!

Use Social Media

My brother Michael is a huge advocate of social media, he would definitely be considered our network leader. He constantly pushes for original content from our members. When I spoke with Michael he stated his opinion on using social media to garner attention for our businesses. “While marketing for our companies, Anytime Fitness and Bamboo Detroit, we use social media to generate buzz by using original content developed by our team members. As we have been focused to develop "sharable" content, social media has become the best resource to allow us to capture that audience the content is meant for."

In order to have a competitive advantage in both industries, we must be very familiar with who our customers are and who we want them to be. Influencing social media for the right customers is extremely important to our success. We have been particularly dedicated to understanding social media behavioral patterns as well as assessing our potential customers. Facebook and Twitter are where we are focusing most of our marketing push, and to date we have hundreds of followers for both Bamboo Detroit and Anytime Fitness Detroit. We are proud of how we have been able to use social media to garner excitement about new business as well as the City of Detroit itself. We plan to continue to work through the different social discovery principles to guarantee we are reaching the right customers and doing it the right way.
