Social Media and the Right Customers

Before I knew anything about call-to-action (CTA) or landing pages, I knew about wanting to give companies information about me in order to get more information about them.  In planning a quarter-life cross-country move from Michigan to Texas, I wanted to get all the information I could about education opportunities in my future home.  I even went so far as to fill out a few forms for schools, giving them my true full name, phone number, and email address - all of which were *required.

The Problem of the Human Connection in Social Media

It’s astonishing how people of all ages desire a human connection - and inbound technology is simply the sharing of old-school values.  How did I find this out?

I put myself in a very different type of social situation for my inbound information technology MBA class. I wanted extra credit enough to volunteer to promote a photo gallery app at the Detroit Auto Show.  Being shy and reserved had no place there!

The Future is Online

I work at the most beautiful casino hotel property outside of Las Vegas in the United States, and it is right here in Detroit, Michigan!  MGM Grand Detroit is the only Forbes 4 Star rated casino hotel property outside of Las Vegas.  Forbes is such a crucial rating because of their brand and respect throughout the industry.  Not only do they help raise our brand by association with them, but also shows our commitment to customer service.  Unlike other rating systems such as AAA’s Diamond Rating, which focuses on amenities, Forbes is focused on customer service; making it much harder to maintain a high rating.  Having a presence with Forbes.com is just one of the many social media outlets MGM Grand Detroit focuses on to help maintain is industry leading competitive edge.  We are responsible for roughly 50% of the gaming market here in Detroit, which is equivalent to about 1.5 million dollars a day.

The Next Billion-Dollar Question

For this blog post, I wanted to integrate something I am passionate for with the material I have learned in ISM 7505: Inbound Information Technology.  Having graduated from Michigan State University, college basketball is one of my passions!  I was very fortunate in my 4 year college career to witness our basketball program at an elite level: BACK TO BACK FINAL FOURS!  The greatest thing about college basketball is March Madness.  There are plenty of people who don’t watch a game during the regular season who fill out a bracket and become a fan for those few short weeks in March and April.  According to the Atlantic, the tournament is a $2.5 billion industry; including individual game bets, future bets, and most importantly your brackets!
