Analytics for Twitter: Which is more popular, knitting or crocheting?

Problem

As a crafter, it has always seemed to me that knitting is more popular than crocheting.  People tend to be more familiar with the term, anyway.  I couldn’t say how often I’ve heard someone mistake a crocheted object for having been knitted, but not so much for the reverse.   I decided to investigate using Analytics for Twitter, comparing hashtags #knit and #crochet, as well as a few related items: the hashtag #sew and keywords crafting and fiber arts.  The search covered the time span of February 8 – 15, 2013.

Head Coach Dan Hawkins, the Montreal Alouettes, and Twitter

On February 19, 2013, the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League introduced Dan Hawkins as the team’s 20th head football coach. Hawkins replaces Marc Trestman, who was hired by the National Football League’s Chicago Bears in January.

Analytics for Twitter: Comedians of Twitter

Introduction

Several years ago, a friend of mine tried to convince me to use Twitter by claiming that the service was mostly populated by comedians sharing jokes and trying to “one-up” one another. As a listener to a number of comedy podcasts and having recently attended Gilda’s LaughFest in Grand Rapids, Michigan last March, I thought I’d use Twitter Analytics to examine how comedians use Twitter and what Twitter Analytics can tell us about why they use do so.
