Establishing Goals

I work in the automotive world, which has been a crazy place to be in the past several years.  Many companies were greatly affected by the down turn in the economy and yet many of the companies have already bounced back or are still in the process.  Meanwhile, the world of social media has been evolving and many of these Automotive companies have utilized this way of marketing to help them bounce back from hard times.  Although the way social media and online marketing is used by the automotive industry can vary greatly depending on if the organization is a Tier 1, Tier 2 or Tier 3, or a dealership, the one thing that resounds synonymously throughout a lot of successful automotive companies is Lean Manufacturing and focus on continuous improvement.

My Journey to an MBA:

The journey to earning my MBA started over 7 years ago. I had been working full time for years and wanted an advanced degree to supplement my skills. I took the GMAT and received a high score. I then applied to Wayne State University School of Business Administration. I was accepted! I was happy and began my journey of taking MBA classes while working full time. I took classes online and in person. First, I had to take the Foundation Classes (like BA 6000: Financial Reporting: Accounting Module and BA 6010: Basics of Business Economics).

Instagram Gets Into the Ad Game

As a digital native, social media plays a huge role in my everyday life. Back in 2004, when I started college, Facebook was just getting popular with college students. Getting that invite to join Facebook ignited my social media obsession. Back in those days, Facebook was a way to find out about people you didn't know and connect with others that you do know. You were limited to just one picture, the profile picture. Since then, things have certainly changed.

Empowering Detroit through Development and Social Media

Posted by Nicolette Ferlito Codd

Nov 18

Despite reports of bankruptcy and corruption, Detroit is growing in a positive way, and it is a great place to live, work, and play.  Currently my family, which includes my two brothers and parents, are opening two, and hopefully more, brand new businesses in the central business district of Detroit, and we are not the only ones!  Accounting firm Plante Moran is opening an office in the Compuware Building. Advertising giant Campbell Ewald has brought 600 employees downtown next to Ford Field. Detroit is growing and changing, and we are excited to be a part of it.

The United World of Social Media

Why Social Media at all … ?

As the evolution of social media continues, (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.), it came to me as I logged on Facebook for the first time, how fast it has grown and how vital it is all over the world. Social media has become its own small world. It is the quickest way to reach someone or spread the news to a mass amount of people. I have tried to keep away from "it" as I have seen how it has consumed lives and lessoned the actual in person communication, but like everyone else living in this age, I was forced to conform. Whether it was by chose, I am not so sure … If I am not involved what networking opportunities will I miss? The way social media has connected the world is simply amazing.  When I first entered in the Facebook website I was like a fish out of water, but in no time I found myself connected with thousands of people I had no relationship to, but somehow social media has brought us together. The use of social media has become the “it” thing to do.

Analytics for Twitter: Which is more popular, knitting or crocheting?

Posted by John H. Heinrichs

Problem

As a crafter, it has always seemed to me that knitting is more popular than crocheting.  People tend to be more familiar with the term, anyway.  I couldn’t say how often I’ve heard someone mistake a crocheted object for having been knitted, but not so much for the reverse.   I decided to investigate using Analytics for Twitter, comparing hashtags #knit and #crochet, as well as a few related items: the hashtag #sew and keywords crafting and fiber arts.  The search covered the time span of February 8 – 15, 2013.
